The true story of Irish High King Brian Boru. Set in the mid tenth century Ireland, this tells the story of Brian Boru and his life long struggle to break Viking power in Ireland. As a ten year old boy much of Boru's clan is slaughtered in a Viking raid. Sent to a monastery by his father to be schooled, at age 17 he returns to the clan now headed by his headstrong older brother Mahon who is attempted to forge diplomacy with the Vikings. This deeply offends Brian who is in turn exiled from the clan and with a few dedicated warriors take up a war of aggression against the invaders. As his legend grows, Brian becomes known as the Lion of Thommond. The story then follows his rise to power as a military leader, King of Munster and ultimately High King of Ireland and the various trials and tribulations he encounters along the way.
