DEPLETION
Red Spectrum Pictures
Producer: Bradley Stearn
Director: Bradley Stearn
Basic Story Line: The world’s resources are coming to a complete ‘DEPLETION’ and only few species of animals are surviving. One of the species being Homo sapiens; or in other words ‘man’. The film is set in the future in one of the few remaining towns in the world; however the town has no resources so the beings that live there rely on slaughtering each other to cherish the remains of the worlds resources, Such as water. The short film follows the life of a single man, ‘Erik Treanor’ as he tries to stay in this survival game. What’s left of the world has just gone through a highly toxic flu pandemic, which wiped out most of the remaining species. With the air being filled with highly toxic chemicals and gases, anyone who has survived the past 10 years of ‘DEPLETION’ has to wear basic survival clothes. Such as gas mask and full body chemical suits, to ensure they do not catch the remains of the flu pandemic.
Scene 1: Introduction Scene
Scene description: The first scene is set in a small dark room on the fourth floor of an abandoned warehouse. there is rubbish all over the floor. The only useful resources are a rifle on the floor and a few pieces of wood with splinters and nails sticking out of them. In this scene Erik is just waking up from a deep sleep. He has been sleeping because the day before he walked into a ‘gas zone’ without his gas mask, causing him to suffer from sever lung damaging which almost killed him. Erik is wearing a black hazmat suit, with a brown colored gas mask with a big filter to keep his respiratory system clean. An old beaten photo of what seems to be of a loved one lay next to him. As Erik wakes up, he drearily looks about the room whilst staying in his upright seated position against the wall. His first main action is the picking up of an empty can of food. He tries to drink the residue out of the can, but he does not succeed. He then picks up another can, this time a can of water, and he manages to get a diminutive amount of water. He picks up his photo and then stands up, picks up his gun, and has a long look around the room so he can get his bearings. He then slowly and cautiously walks out of the room into the next room.
Scene 2: Scanning the area
Scene description: Erik is now slowly walking about the fourth floor of the abandoned warehouse. He takes long looks out of most of the windows as he walks past them. All he would be able to see are the remains of the town he’s in, and a large amount of ozone ‘DEPLETION’ which fills the sky with polluted air and clouds. He then comes across a stair case which leads down one floor, to the third floor. He then gradually makes his way down the long narrow concrete stairs. Once on the third floor of the building, he realizes that there is nothing much different than on the fourth floor. He has a quick scan of the room to make sure there is nothing useful, such as left over water, food or weapons. He finds nothing so strolls down to the second floor. He finds that this floor is set out much differently than the other two he had just been on. This floor has a long corridor down one side of it. However all the glass in the room has been smashed and is lying all over the floor. He walks to the opposite side of the room and finds a dead body, without breathing equipment, so it’s clear why he’s dead. Erik then walks down onto the ground floor of the building to discover something quite shocking.
Scene 3: Discovery
Scene description: He turns round the corner into the last 10 steps down to the ground floor of the building, and quickly glimpses a glance of another roaming human being. He is dressed almost the same as Erik however comes across to be more aggressive. Erik quickly turns back and keeps his back straight against the wall so that the other human cannot see him. Erik waits for the man to leave the room and then carries on walking cautiously making sure he stays behind the other human whilst not making any noises by stepping on the glass which is scattered across the floor. Walking into the next room of the building, Erik comes across what seems to be a disused furnace room, with no coal available in this future world, Erik has no way of starting the furnace up for heat, so he picks up the plank of wood which lay next to the furnace and makes his way out of the small mechanical looking room.
