John is a currency trader(or a stock trader),and things are going smooth for him,but something is missing and he decides to make a change in his life when, taking lunch in an ordinary restaurant his eyes stumble upon Katie,a very beautiful waitress. He does not hesitate and asks her to dinner. After a few dates they both now they are meant for each other and get married. But John has a dream, for a long time,he wants to have his own farm,to grow his food and all kinds of farm animals,to drive a tractor, plow the ground...he wants to feel alive, connected to the land, hes sick of the city concrete, the arrogance of other traders, the lack of values, the greed. So,he goes and tell Katie about his plan and first she's kind of shocked, but eventually she is convinced to implicate. The small town in witch they move is pretty ancient when it comes to new ideas or when a city boy comes to their town to start a farm so this constitutes another struggle. John and Katie are trying to socialize ,tell their story and plans to open a farmer's market but there are few positive reactions. They start by buying a piece of land, build a house and a barn. John buys a tractor, prepares the land, plants an orchard,he's having all kinds of comic encounters with his neighbors and wild animals still present on his land. John struggles to convince the mayor of the town to let him open the farmer's market, and when the first crop is ready to harvest he gets an unhoped help from a couple of drifters who needed a place to crash and something to eat. The farmer's market is a big success in the community, and John and Katie's farm becomes a little gem of that part of the country. Katie finds an old and hidden gift of hers, writing children novels and there is a happy ending for the movie with the birth of their first child.
