When an airline pilot is ready to board his flight from Singapore to Sydney he gets a call from his wife, she tells him their daughter just had an accident and is in the hospital, there is a big chance she won't survive. He needs to get home asap and decides to hijack his own flight and fly back to Los Angeles so he can say goodbye to his daughter. Will he be back on time to say goodbye?

Best Laid Plans is a dramatic movie that will wrench and tear at the hearts of viewers, old and young. It is a story about a troubled high school teenager who has amazing potential on the football field, but has had multiple run ins with the law. His older brother is in jail, his mom is a drug addict, and his dad is long gone. His situation looks bleak. One day, a college scout comes and watches him play, and is very impressed with his talent. He tells him that although he'd like to give the kid a scholarship, he just doesn't trust him since he has had a very troubled past. The scout offers to send him to a boarding school for his senior year, and see if he can shape up. The kid agrees.
The first few months, he gets troubled adjusting into his new life surrounded by other kids who have so much more money than him. He does eventually find his place. However, he joins a service organization where they each act as a "big brother" to a young kid who is diagnosed with cancer. As he visits the child center, he is struck by the kid that is sitting by himself in the corner. He goes over and starts asking him some questions, trying to get to know the kid. The kid immediately cheers up and tells him that they will be best friends. Amused, the protagonist agrees.
As the weeks develop, the two develop a very close bond, as he brings the kid to his football practices, games, school events. He finds out the kid has a very rare form of cancer, and has gone through multiple treatments of chemotherapy. Touched, he tries to reach out to the kid's parents. But he soon finds out that the kid's parents are rich millionaires who are always busy with work to give their kid attention, even when he is going through cancer treatment. Although they still love him, they are always busy and not around. Feeling very upset, the protagonist vows to be the older figure in the kid's life that was never there. As he benefits the kid's life with his presence and loving attention, the kid also helps change the protagonist, by teaching him that there is so much more to the world than just violence and death and drugs. The two feed off the love and care of one another, and they develop a special relationship.
Then one day, the kid gets very sick, and is hospitalized. With no options left, surgery is the only way that the doctors could possibly save him. As the kid gets ready to be rolled into the treating room, the protagonist spends some precious moments with the kid. The kid tells him that deep inside he is an amazing person who has a loving heart who was just stuck in a bad situation. They share a tearful moment, but the protagonist tells the kid to stay strong and that he will definitely get through the surgery. The kid's parents are also there, and also reach out their son. They tell them that they love him, and the kid smiles sadly. The nurse asks the kid if he has anything else he wants to say before he has to enter the room, and the kid coughs for a minute, and then weakly says something that will empower the whole movie. He says, "I wish my parents would have spent more time with me." A somber feeling enclouds the room, and his parents realize their mistakes in life, and are devastated when they just realized this. The kid then is rolled on the cart into the room.
Hours pass, and finally a nurse comes out. The news? The kid did not make it. As the parents vow to never be like this again during weeps, the protagonist silently walks out of the hospital into sunshine. He sits down on a bench, and reminisces the times since he moved from his troubled house to now, and realizes how much he has changed, all because of one sick kid.

The premise is a young happy couple, living a typical, settled life. Just as they move into a perfect home in the suburbs, the wife discovers she is pregnant. The couple spend nine months in bliss, until the woman goes into labour and suffers many complications, resulting in the death of the child upon birth. The film would focus on the issues of a stillborn, and how it affects marriage and the mental health of the female. The topic, which is hardly ever discussed on the big screen, would show the reality of childbirth when the outcome is not as pleasant as expected. The result would show the couple attempting to keep their bond alive, and move past the devastation.
