This is a work in progress, so feel free to throw any amendments / ideas my way.
The main hook with this film is that there would be no voice actors, with dialogue explained through a combination of old-fashioned title cards and musical instruments (each character would have their own musical instrument associated with their dialogue). Background music would also be a big tool in telling the story.
Done entirely in CGI (Disney/Pixar style) but in black-and-white (at least at the start - I eventually see our hero jumping into a colour film reel - similar to The Wizard of Oz), it would tell the tale of a Charlie Chaplin-style character, Chappy, stuck on a film-reel in a dusty cupboard, who somehow ends up meeting a female character from the modern era and falling in love with her (WALL-E has been a big inspiration for this idea)
There would be the inevitable culture clash between our hero and heroine, though of course we know they will end up together at the end of the film. I have yet to think of an antagonist, though I would imagine a Bluto (from Popeye) style character from Chappy's old film who has also taken a shine to our modern-day heroine.
An alternative idea (or possibly a sequel...wishful thinking) is that Chappy's old film gets remade to bring it up-to-date, with the new Chappy a lot more arrogant and confident than our humble friend. The new Chappy would then serve as the antagonist for the film, though with the inevitable teaming up at the end of the film against a bigger threat, and realisation that both Chappy's are good in their own ways.
That's all I really have for now. Please rate my idea honestly and let me know of any suggestions / ideas for this project.
Thanks.
