In a town of only wolves, every single one of them sings. A law is made that wolves must find their soul mate through their songs that go through them. They aren’t aloud to sing their songs till they graduate from high school. When Marcus and Brittany have done so and their first-born, Alex, was perfect. When his singing classes start in middle school, his notes start to slur and his peers make fun of him; but his friend Melissa thinks his singing is okay. When he gets into high school, he still does it, but he hears something in his head and plays it. With the guitar the choir teacher uses, he plays the song in his head. He finishes the song with the principal threatening him with expulsion if he were to do it again. There is a new law that you must be able to sing before you play an instrument. Alex runs away his senior year and tries to live on his own. He faces some bear bullies, skunk gangsters and leopards that want to seduce him. He gets away and finds a group of animals that are playing music; a singing turtle named Hope, a hippo playing the electric bass named Russle, a bat on a piano named Jet and a monkey playing a drum set named Jessica. Alex joins up with them and is talked into play they extra guitar they have with them. The guitar is acoustic and he plays with them scared, but Jessica tells him it’s nothing to think about; just play with what you feel. He does so and he is amazed at what he is doing. He lives with them for a while and begins to know who they are. They are known as Animal Family because Russle and Hope were hated in their town for loving each other, so they ran away together. They adopted Jet and Jessica because they were outcasts of their towns like Alex. When Alex talks about his town, Hope goes into shock. Before Animal Family was created, they had a wolf with them that could play the guitar. He had an electric guitar and enjoyed doing solo improves. They called him Mac. Mac needed to tell his town that he was leaving forever, but he never came back. They believe he was killed because the town forbids musicians there. Alex tells him that there are new rules for the town, but he talks about how stupid they are. When all is said and done, Alex asks if he could sneak back to town to tell Melissa what he’ll do. Hope and Russle protest against it, but Jet steps in to convince them to let Alex go. Jessica follows Alex, but no one knows she’s following him. Alex finds Melissa and tells her the plan, but his peers jump him because one of them already has eyes set on her, Blake. He choses to kill him, but Jessica, still hiding, heard and saw everything and went back to warn the others. The Animal Family sneaks to the wolf town with her and they find Alex in an alley. Alex tells them they knew someone would save him, but they didn’t expect it to be other animals. Melissa, on the other hand, went to Alex’s parents to tell them what will happen if they don’t save Alex. Marcus and Brittany follow her to the alley to see the Animal Family untying Alex, followed by the reunion of Marcus (who was known as Mac), Russle and Hope. After some small talk, Blake and some other wolves come to get rid of them, but the freeze at the sight of the other animals. Who will win? The in town wolves or the band of animals?
