A simple story that starts just after the little mermaid dies in the original story the little mermaid by Haans Christian Anderson. The sea king is distraught over the loss of his youngest daughter and decides to take out his vengeance upon the sea witch, but she was expecting this and winds up ceasing the kingdom and forces the sea king into giving her a son known as Darkstar, who will one day rule the kingdom. Meanwhile one of the daughters of the sea king escapes along with others to start a new life somewhere else, where she gives birth to a daughter. Darklord grows up and seizes the kingdom from her mother the sea witch and send her to exile. The sea witch creates a plan to take vengeance upon her son by convincing the daughter of the mermaid to go tot the surface, where she is caught up in a storm and washed up on shore. A man finds her and takes care of her, he seems to be nothing more than a beach bum, unable to understand her language, which sounds like squeaks and wails, and he still finds himself entranced by her. After a few days though he know she must return to the sea, which he does so, and returns every night to see if she will return. After a few nights he sees something, but it isn’t the mermaid but the sea witch, who makes him an offer, she will give him a potion that will turn him into a merman, and he can rejoin his love. What he doesn’t know is that it was the little mermaid daughter who made the deal, and he has only so much time to complete his task, which is to defeat Darkstar. Unfortunately he is detained and doesn’t complete his mission in time, and the little mermaid is lost. He then must break the news to her mother where he finds the truth. He learns about the statue that started it all, the statue that her sister fell in love with, and started this whole thing, and he realizes that the statue is his father, and that he was a prince at one time, but the kingdom was conquered and he barley escapes with his life only to become a beach bum. After this he is now more determined to defeat Darkstar and his mother which he does and becomes the new king of the undersea kingdom. But all is not lost when it comes to the little mermaid he loved so much, for he will always remember her last dying words. "We may not be together as children of the sea, but one day I know that we will be together, not as children of the sea, but children of the land." And many generations from then, a man will be walking along the shore, he will spot a woman perched upon a rock looking out at the crashing waves, he runs to her they embrace, fall in love and live happily ever after. This puts a little twist to the original story, making the man go to the sea instead of the other way around. I feel that this would be a much appreciated continuation to a classic tale, without ruining the under based moral of the story.
